Who this is for
The brief is for Shopify app founders and operating teams who need a bounded weekly review across commercial and distribution evidence.
- 01A connected Shopify Partner account
- 02At least one selected Shopify app
- 03A completed sync
- 04A reporting currency when the workspace contains more than one
- 05Tracking, affiliate or competitor setup only for the corresponding optional sections
1. Verify the brief
- 01Open Weekly brief from the Marlo navigation
- 02Confirm the seven-day date range ends on the reporting as-of date
- 03Confirm the customer scope matches the saved workspace default
- 04Compare closing MRR and movement with the MRR report
- 05Open one churn merchant when a loss is shown
- 06Compare the acquisition stages with Distribution
- 07Open a public competitor source when a change is shown
- 08Check Sync first when the freshness warning appears
Each button opens the supporting report or record. If a supplemental source fails, the revenue and merchant sections remain available and Marlo names the missing source.
2. Understand the priority order
- 01Stale Shopify evidence before interpretation
- 02Unclassified MRR reconciliation before movement conclusions
- 03Missing browser-to-server acquisition handoffs before channel conclusions
- 04Opening-cohort MRR loss before aggregate acquisition volume
- 05Largest sequential acquisition-stage loss
- 06Pending affiliate ledger decisions
- 07Source-linked public competitor changes
- 08New merchant activity
- 09No escalation when none of those signals is present
The order is deterministic and documented. It does not estimate impact, predict churn or claim that one observed event caused another.
3. Read each section
- 01Recurring revenue: net and closing MRR plus the largest classified movement
- 02Merchant activity: install, uninstall, reactivation and trial-conversion events
- 03Opening-cohort churn: exact subscriptions and merchants reducing opening MRR
- 04Distribution: acquisitions first seen in the week, followed to later observed stages
- 05Affiliates: new resolved attributions and current pending ledger rows
- 06Competitors: public changes observed during the week with their source
4. Investigate, then decide
- 01Open the linked report before changing product or distribution
- 02Check exact merchants and lifecycle evidence
- 03Confirm the reporting scope and currency
- 04Separate Shopify freezes from merchant-chosen uninstalls
- 05Treat direct / untagged acquisition as missing evidence
- 06Treat competitor timing as a prompt to inspect—not proof of commercial effect
- 07Record a decision only after the evidence supports it
Security, privacy and delivery
- 01The brief is available only to authenticated workspace members
- 02Existing Marlo role permissions continue to apply
- 03No mutation or external action is available from the brief
- 04No email, Slack message, social post or merchant outreach is sent
- 05No identifiable merchant data is sent to a new AI processor in this version
- 06Public competitor statements retain their public source
- 07Tracking evidence remains subject to the documented 180-day raw-event retention window
Troubleshooting
- 01Missing revenue: check the selected app, currency, transaction coverage and sync
- 02Unexpected scope: change and save the reporting default from Reports
- 03Missing acquisition: verify the browser event and authoritative server handoff in Tracking
- 04Missing affiliate row: verify the retained attribution, merchant reference and attribution window
- 05Missing competitor change: confirm the app is enabled and its latest snapshot completed
- 06Supplemental source unavailable: open that product screen directly, then retry the brief
Known limitations
- 01The date window is a fixed seven days ending on the reporting as-of date
- 02Distribution cohorts acquisitions first seen in the week but can include later evidence observed through the current report date
- 03The missing-handoff diagnostic comes from the current 30-day Distribution report
- 04Affiliate pending rows are current work items, not only rows created during the week
- 05Current merchant plan and country are not historical acquisition-time facts
- 06Small samples can move sharply
- 07The initial brief is deterministic rather than generative AI
- 08No notification schedule or external delivery is included
